The name ZT Group or ZT Systems may be unfamiliar to you, but the company has been building systems and selling them through big-box stores like Costco, Staples, Target, and Wal-Mart for several years. The ZT Affinity 7225Xi is a midprice multimedia system ($749.99 list) that combines a quad-core Intel processor, 4GB of speedy (800-MHz) DDR2 memory, and a discrete graphics card to give you decent performance for not too much money. The 7225Xi has enough oomph to satisfy a budding artist, while its reasonable price will make your family's budget keeper happy.

Lenovo's ThinkCentre A62 ($844 direct) is the latest in a long lineage of corporate-level PCs made for small-to-medium-size businesses. It looks just like previous ThinkCentre towers, though it's inside where all the magic happens. This model has a quad-core AMD Phenom processor, and that may make a difference to that star worker who's always complaining that his or her PC is too slow. The A62 can be a good fit for the content-creation wing of your business: the art department or, better yet, the Web development team. Another plus is that it looks just like all those other clerical-level PCs, so the other workers won't get jealous.

The Dell Inspiron 518 ($764 direct) is the newest member of Dell's value-oriented line. Although it's positioned as a "value" PC, it's got a quad-core processor for chewing through those videos you want to upload to your Web site. The system is well equipped for the money and represents a decent upgrade over sub-$500 systems. That extra money buys you mid-level discrete graphics, a quad-core processor, good design, a 15-month subscription to McAfee Security Center, and no crapware.

HP Pavilion Elite m9400t

The HP Pavilion Elite m9400t ($1,109 list; $1,440 with 20-inch widescreen monitor) will look familiar to some. It's housed in the same case as the m9200t I looked at not too long ago, and it's externally identical to the m9040n I reviewed last year. Like those systems, the m9400t is built to order, and it's optimized for the multimedia enthusiast—as in the teen or adult in your family who thinks that the current family PC is "too slow" and "doesn't do enough.

Sony VAIO VGX-TP25E

The Sony VAIO VGX-TP25E ($3,000 direct) is a pricey Digital Entertainment System (DES) or home theater PC with a unique and attractive design. It's meant to sit in your theater cabinet next to the widescreen HDTV. As a home-theater system, it drops some features common to desktop PCs yet adds others that acclimate it to the living-room environment. Though it isn't perfect, the TP25E is a really good fit for the PC you want to hook up to the 65-inch plasma. The TP25E is "mostly wireless," which cuts down on the visual clutter, but there is a big caveat to that statement (read on, dear reader). Blu-ray and a new Penryn-based processor are tech highlights. If you have the means (and the desire), the TP25E is a good choice for the HD-consuming connoisseur.

OpenOffice 3.0

OpenOffice 3.0 will be officially released on October 13, 2008, as scheduled on their RoadMap. However, the installation file was already exist on some mirror server. It would be as preparation phase so we can expect that on the specified date, the installation file will be already available.

Is Apple Headed for an iPod Shortage?

Apple is struggling to keep up with the demand for iPods, which could lead to a shortage during the holiday season, according to a Wednesday research note from Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu. Amazon.com, for example, recently pushed the availability of the 8GB second-generation iPod touch from 11 days to 5 weeks. The 16GB model is still at 3 to 5 weeks.

Creative First Released The Vado Pocket Video Cam HD

Creative first released the Vado. Creative's videocam had a sleeker body, a larger screen, and a removable rechargeable battery. It was also a lot less expensive than Pure Digital's offering. The Vado proved to be our favorite entry in the space—that is, until Kodak brought HD into the game with the release of the Zi6, the camera that eventually took home our first Editors' Choice in the category.

New JVC Everio Models with HDD and microSDHC Storage

JVC comes out with two new Everio camcorders today that have both an internal hard disk drive and a microSDHC card slot for storage.

The two models are the GZ-MG840 (in red, blue and silver) with a 60GB hard drive and the GZ-MG880 (in black) with a larger 120GB hard drive. Both camcorders have the capacity to shoot in 720x480 wide format DVD-resolution video.

The 120GB internal hard drive can store 28 hours and 40 minutes of video in high-quality MPEG-2 format, not counting the possible 1 hour and 54 minutes stored in a separate 8GB microSDHC card. The new JVC Everio GZ-MG840 and GZ-MG880 are now available in Japan for $757 and $811 respectively.(www.gearlog.com)

RadioShack Selling $99 Acer Aspire One

RadioShack will begin selling Acer's Aspire One netbook. The electronics store will charge $99.99 for the 3G-enabled netbook with a two-year AT&T DataConnect plan (beginning at $60 a month).
The 2.44 pound Aspire One features a 160GB hard drive and 1GB of memory and runs Windows XP.
The offer is good at 4,400 RadioShack retail stores up through December 24th.

Logitech Pure-Fi Elite

Logitech introduced the AudioStation, an iPod speaker dock with top-notch sound that was a good alternative to the minimalist yet pricey Bose SoundDock. Logitech's new Pure-Fi Elite, like the AudioStation before it, packs plenty of features, including an AM/FM tuner, a sleep timer, an iPod video-out, and a better-than-average remote.

Updated: Dell Jumps into the $99 Netbook Game

Following the Acer/RadioShack $99 netbook that debuted on Thursday night, our own Cisco Chang spotted an interesting deal on DealCatcher.com: buy a selected notebook or desktop, and get a Dell Mini 9 UMPC for just $99.

Xbox 360 Sales Jump

The Xbox 360's,The high-priced Sony Playstation 3 was in third, with a mere 378,000 units sold.Things are looking pretty bright for Nintendo in the portable space as well. The NIntendo DS outsold the Sony PSP 1.57 million to 421,000.

While it didn't manage to take first place, the Xbox 360 did manage to up its yearly sales be 22 percent year over year, due at least in part to Microsoft's recent price drop from $349 to $299 for the basic Xbox system.

Bose SoundDock Portable

Bose's new SoundDock Portable looks a lot like the original SoundDock, which isn't portable at all. The funny thing is, this new dock isn't all that easy to transport, either.

Judge Dismisses Psystar's Counterclaim Against Apple

Psystar argued that Apple's operating system is an independent market with no competitors, but the judge disagreed.Apple sued Psystar in July for copyright infringement, breach of contract, trademark and trade infringement, and unfair competition after Psystar started selling the Open Computer, which uses a modified version of Apple's OS X.

Psystar filed a counterclaim in August, arguing that a market could exist for third-party Mac clones, if not for the legal and technical barriers that Apple has set up.

The Dell M109S Projector

The Dell M109S Projector was small.The Pico PK101 from Optoma and the MPro110 from 3M.
Both are just a little bit bigger than a cell phone or iPod, and both offer surprisingly good video.
The Optoma model sells for $399, while the 3M retails at $359.
